Abstract:
Dallas 100, founded by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, honors the ingenuity, commitment and perseverance of the fastest growing privately-held entrepreneurial businesses in Dallas.
November 17, 2011 Dallas (SMU) - The top entrepreneurial Dallas-based company in 2011 is SoftLayer Technologies.  The honor was announced at the annual Dallas 100tm Awards Ceremony and Banquet on Wednesday night, November 16 at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center.  SoftLayer is an innovation leader in Cloud, Dedicated, and Managed Hosting, and the largest private hosting company in the world.  The company was chosen as the top Dallas 100tm company because sales increased 350 percent from 2008 to 2010 and closed 2010 with $275 million in revenue.  That growth represented the biggest percentage sales increase and the largest dollar growth in that period, ahead of the other Dallas 100tm companies, according to the calculations of the accounting firm BKD CPAs and Advisors.

Dallas 100tm, founded by SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, honors the ingenuity, commitment and perseverance of the fastest growing privately-held entrepreneurial businesses in Dallas.  Along with Softlayer, 99 other Dallas-based companies were ranked in order from 100 to one.  Each one was announced prior to the unveiling of the top Dallas 100tm company.  The top 10 companies were also recognized.  They are, in order from one to 10: #1) Softlayer Technologies; #2) Link America, Inc.; #3) Clearview Electric, Inc.; #4) BioWorld Merchandising, Inc.; #5) TAOS-Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions, Inc.; #6) Homeland Health Care, Inc.; #7) Benchmark Bank; #8) Optimal Solutions Integration, Inc.; #9) Shaddock Homes, Ltd.; and #10) ISN.

The twenty-first annual Dallas 100tm Awards Ceremony was presented by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship along with sponsors including Executive Press, The Stewart Organization, Amegy Bank, Carr Intellectual Property Law, Evos Financial, The Intersect Group, CresaPartners, KRLD 1080 News Radio, Dallas Business Journal, and BKD CPAs and Advisors.  The founders originally conceived of the event in 1990, in the midst of another economically challenging time for the country, with the goal of shining the spotlight on the good news about fast growth Dallas companies.  The event continues to recognize privately held corporations, proprietorships or partnerships headquartered in Dallas that don't otherwise get attention, but which have created jobs and generated wealth for their founders and employees.

"Entrepreneurs are the fundamental change agents and rejuvenators of an economy," said Jerry White, event co-founder and director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU Cox School of Business.  "They derive innovation, build companies, create jobs and build the wealth of the nation."

More than 1,000 guests filled the Meyerson Symphony Center for the evening, which included a keynote address by Phil Romano, CEO of Romano Concepts, who told the audience that "the country's economic success depends on their success as entrepreneurs."  A complete list of all Dallas 100tm companies, ranked from one to 100, follows:
